A movie review : Tamasha

Have you ever analysed a movie so much that in the end you don't know whether you like it or not and your mind keeps changing?

Well, Imtiaz Ali's latest movie 'Tamasha' is one such movie that requires thought and understanding. I watched this movie about a week ago and am still pondering over it, the reason being a complex story and how the movie was staged.

'Tamasha' is about a man(Ranbir Kapoor) who has been asked to follow a regimen of expectations set by his father. When on a holiday he meets a girl(Deepika),both decide to fake their personalities but end up falling in love. They agree to go their own ways deciding never to meet again. A couple of years later Deepika bumps into Ranbir in Delhi where she has come for a work-related assignment. Ranbir in truth is a boring individual. They try to accept each others 'true' personalities but when Ranbir proposes to Deepika she denies and insists that this is not him and his true personality is the one she was introduced to in Corsica. In the end Ranbir goes back to his father to explain to him through a story about how this is not the kind of life he wanted and is forced to live in such manner. Realisation dawns over his father and he encourages his son to follow his dreams of story telling and play writing. Ranbir and Deepika fall in love again this time with the personalities they know are the real ones.

According to me the story although complex is a meaningful one if understood properly. It could have been depicted in a better manner. The order of scenes(constant switch between past and present) and change in personalities confuses the audience.Views regarding such a movie may be varied but i can assure you it is worth a watch and the performance of Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone really deserve applause.
